COMPANIES can start booking hospitality for The Open golf championship when it returns to Merseyside in 18 months.

A top-class field including the likes of Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods are set to return to the Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake from July 13-20 next year.

Reservations for The Open’s official hospitality programme have now opened online.

According to organiser the Royal & Ancient (R&A) the decision to accept reservations so early was “prompted by customer demand, with North West golf fans eager to secure official hospitality packages”.

R&A marketing director Robin Bell said: “Our official hospitality programme gives our corporate customers the location they want, on course, close to the action.

“They have the additional comfort of knowing their advance purchase is secured by us and tailored to meet the highest standards of customer service.”

The Open was last held at Royal Liverpool in 2006 when Woods secured his third championship victory in near-record high temperatures for the North West.
