Merseyside shopkeeper hailed a ‘hero’ after hounding armed thieves from shop

A SHOP assistant was hailed a hero after forcing two robbers armed with a handgun out of his store.

Kannan Ravai, 25, from Birkenhead, was confronted by the robbers in the MRM convenience store, on King Street, who shouted at him to open the tills.

But he bravely refused, before attempting to call the police and forcing the thugs out onto the street.

Store owner Rave Endrarajah, 34, said his employee was “a brave hero”.

He told the ECHO: “When the two men came in the shop wearing masks and took out a gun, Kannan just started arguing with them.

“He refused to give in and be intimidated. It was extremely brave what he did because when someone has a gun you are totally defenceless and at the mercy of them. So to confront them in the way he did was absolutely amazing.”
