TravelWise, It's Our World
TravelWise Merseyside is Merseyside Transport Partnership’s (MTP) campaign to help people across the region make more sustainable travel choices - to walk, cycle, use public transport or car share. The Partnership is made up of Merseytravel and Knowsley, Liverpool, Sefton, St Helens and Wirral councils.
TravelWise campaigns are central to helping Merseyside achieve its transport targets and the Partnership has run a number of successful TravelWise programmes in recent years.
More than 80,000 schoolchildren in Merseyside now take part in a six-week long BIG Walk to School each summer term and TravelWise is working with schools, businesses and visitor attractions to develop Travel Plans that encourage more TravelWise trips.
The annual TravelWise Cycle Challenge is now in its second year and encourages more people to get out on their bikes more often, with those making most effort winning cycling-related prizes.
Free led TravelWise Bike Time rides are running regularly until the autumn and TravelWise also co-ordinates cycle skills training for children and adults, as well as providing cycle maps to show how easy it is to get from A to B by bike.
Personal Travel Planning (PTP) projects target specific areas of Merseyside each year, with 10,000 households in the West Derby area of Liverpool, including parts of Tuebrook and Croxeth Park, currently being offered free personalised green travel planning advice in a bid to reduce peak-time congestion on main routes into Liverpool city centre.
TravelWise Week is held each autumn to coincide with International Car Free Day. The public are encouraged to try out alternatives to the car – such as walking, cycling or using public transport - during TravelWise Week.
