The origins of the dry cleaning business go back to 1817 when Johnson Brothers started in business in Liverpool as silk dyers.
In 1920, Johnson Brothers joined forces in amalgamation with two dry cleaning companies, Jas Smith & Son and Flinn & Son Ltd of Brighton.
Further expansion of the Group took place over the next 60 years until Johnsons became the largest dry cleaning organisation in the country.
Johnson Cleaners is helping to make a difference with GreenEarth® Cleaning. The GreenEarth® process uses pure liquid silicone, a safe, natural by-product of sand that doesn’t chemically interact with fabrics.
So it’s better for your clothing, better for the environment and it doesn’t cost any extra!
Johnson Cleaners launched a ‘Hand Back your Hangers’ campaign in August 2008. Each branch now has a ‘Hanger Recycling Station’ for customers to deposit your iconic yellow hangers. By doing this, you will help us reduce our commitment to plastic, which is great for the planet.
So far, we have reduced the amount of hangers we use by 19%. We aim to improve further on this, so don’t forget to return your hangers to your nearest branch.
Johnson Cleaners UK Ltd (JCUK) was formed in 1995 when the 12 operating companies, which made up the Johnson Group in the UK at that time, were restructured into just two companies.
