With 10 green flags flying proudly over the borough, Halton is committed to maintaining high standards of environmental excellence.
Excluding the
More than 90 hectares of new woodland have been created in the last decade, as part of Haltons commitment to the Mersey Forest. Halton is also one of only eight council areas in the country which has 10 green flag awards, awarded by the Civic Trust for its parks and green spaces.
Haltons town centres in Widnes and Runcorn have also benefited from environmental improvements, such as the transformation of the former Vine Chemicals site in
In addition to improving the natural and built environment, Halton Borough Council has a firm commitment to the impact of its own operations on the environment.
The Council signed the Nottingham Declaration on Climate Change and more recently has worked with the Carbon Trust, to put a plan in place aimed at reducing the Councils carbon emissions by 20% over the next five years.
From street scene services to environmental health, to waste management and recycling, Halton is committed to improving performance and minimising costs.
