Wirral Farmers' Market celebrates its eighth birthday with a vote for favourite food producers

FOODIES will have a chance to vote for their favourite Farmers’ Market stalls and products as the popular event celebrates its eighth birthday.

A luxurious lunch created entirely from local produce was enjoyed by stall holders and committee members at a birthday party held last Saturday.

A birthday cake of raspberries, mascarpone, almonds and a dash of amaretto was a fitting way to celebrate eight years of high quality produce on Wirral.

And to coincide with celebrations, shoppers will be able to vote for their favourite farmers and food producers.

There are several categories looking for winners, including most unusual product, best presented stall and best customer service.

Votes were collected by hand during the most recent market, but those who missed out still have a chance to register their appreciation on the wirralfarmersmarket.co.uk website

Last year saw Ian Lloyd pick up the best product award for his double yolk eggs, while the best presented stall award was scooped by Birkenhead-based The Chocolate Cellar.

Anne Benson, chairman of Wirral Farmers’ Market, said: “We can’t believe it has been eight years since the market started and how its popularity just continues to grow.

“It is thanks to the volunteers who make it happen month after month and to the fantastic produce we have on our doorstep.”

The winners will be announced at the next market, on Saturday, August 8, at New Ferry Village Hall from 9am.
