Heswall's Sheldrakes nominated for two awards

SHELDRAKES in Lower Heswall has been nominated for two prestigious awards.

The restaurant on Banks Road has been named as a finalist in the “New Dish for Liverpool 08” competition - the only restaurant from Wirral to make it to the final six.

Chefs and restaurants from across Merseyside were asked to produce a dish which they think represents Liverpool in 2008.

Sheldrakes is also bidding for the Mersey Partnership’s “Taste of Merseyside” award, which aims to reward restaurants aspiring to the highest standards, using local produce and ingredients.

The restaurant has made it to the final four and the winner will be announced at an awards ceremony on May 28.

Chef Rob Bryson is representing Sheldrakes in the New Dish for Liverpool competition against chefs from Delifonseca, the London Carriage Works, The Olive Press, the Royal Court Theatre and Mayur Restaurant.

The final “cook-off” will take place on May 19 at Liverpool Community College.

Martin King, director of tourism for the Mersey Partnership, said: “Scouse is an important part of our history and is worth celebrating in itself, but we thought it would be interesting to test the creativity and skills of chefs across the region.

“It is a great opportunity to create a new signature dish, one that reflects the passion, the creativity, the culture and the changes that are going on .”

The winner of “New Dish for Liverpool 08” will receive a specially designed trophy and the chance to promote their winning recipe.

They will also have the chance to highlight the new dish at Wirral Food and Drink Festival and Liverpool Food and Drink Festival.
