A HOMEGROWN musical about Birkenhead shipyard Cammell Laird is crossing the Mersey later this year.
Down Our Street, which was first performed at Birkenhead Town Hall in 2003, will be staged at the Royal Court Theatre in Liverpool from April 12 to 27.
The ensemble piece, written by Brian McCann, tells the story of the shipyard through the eyes of the people of Birkenhead.
There will be a new score for the 2013 production.
Brian said: “You only have to look down the banks of the River Mersey to see the iconic buildings of what was one of the greatest shipbuilders in the world, Cammell Laird.”
Cast details will be announced later this year but previous casts have included Mickey Finn, Mark Lacey, Charlie Griffiths and even Ruth Laird, the great, great, great great granddaughter of Lairds founder William Laird.
