Wirral singer Marc Kenny jets to Moscow to play at the request of mystery Russian entrepreneur

A WIRRAL musician jetted to Moscow at the request of a wealthy Russian entrepreneur.

Marc Kenny usually plays in the Cavern in Liverpool and venues across Wirral but caught the attention of the mystery music lover at an outdoor gig in London two years ago.

The 29-year-old and his band have since been asked to play at events in glamorous settings including Paris, Sardinia and St Tropez.

In August they played in Tel Aviv and last week they were put up in a hotel near the Kremlin for a performance in the heart of the Russian capital.

Marc, who also plays at the Christmas parties of Dragon’s Den star Theo Paphitis, admits the glamorous surroundings are worlds apart from his gigs back home in Wirral.

The New Brighton singer, who is staying tight-lipped about the identity of his Russian fan, laughed: “It’s quite bizarre.

“When I did the outdoor gig in London in a marquee he heard the band playing from his apartment three blocks away.

“He must have been impressed with what he heard as the next morning he went round to the venue to get my contact details!”

In Tel Aviv, Marc and his band played on a rooftop and in Sardinia they were on the bill for a private event on the beach – sharing a stage with R ‘n’B singer Craig David.

Marc said: “I guess he keeps booking us because it’s been such a success at the other events across Europe.”

“I usually play an international set list that will be well received in any city in the world so there’s some Elton John, U2, Michael Jackson and bands like the Killers and Kings of Leon.

At home in Wirral, Marc is helping with the iKandi’s Got Talent competition at New Brighton bar iKandi.

He plays at the Cavern Pub in Liverpool every Friday from 6pm and on Sundays at The Boot in Liscard, also at 6pm.
