Cash in the Attic star Paul Hayes bringing band to Wirral to play with Elvis guitarist James Burton

CASH in the Attic star Paul Hayes will unveil his own collection of priceless musical artefacts in New Brighton on Friday.

The antiques expert and his band the Paul Hayes Collection are playing on the same bill as acclaimed guitarist James Burton at Fort Perch Rock.

Louisiana-born Burton has been called the guitarist’s guitarist and he’s played with the biggest names of all – from Jerry Lee to Ricky Nelson to Elvis Presley.

Paul, 40, from Morecambe, says the gig is a dream come true for his rock ‘n’ roll band.

He told the News: “We’re all massively excited about it – what an opportunity.

“We were saying before that if we could play with anyone it would be James Burton.

“We’re a little bit nervous but this is our passion and we’ll be giving it our all.”

Paul’s burgeoning music career started eight months ago when he joined the band alongside antiques dealer Golly Goulding (lead guitar), Garry Pugh (bass), Wayne Barker (rhythm guitar) and Eric Broadbent (drums).

The father-of-three said: “I’ve always had a real interest in rock ‘n’ roll music and I used to call it ‘antique music’!

“I went out to Memphis last year, which was a birthday present from my brother. We’re both big Elvis fans and I was just blown away by the whole thing.

“I wanted to give it a go and Golly invited me to come and try out. They’re all top class musicians.

He joked: “It’s a collection of priceless artefacts!

“You name a musician and James Burton has worked with them,” Paul enthused. “ He’s played with Elvis, Ricky Nelson, John Denver and Bruce Springsteen said working with him was one of the highlights of his career.

“While he’s in the UK he’s going to be playing with Eric Clapton and Tom Jones – and us!”

Paul does have one ambition left to fulfil: “The one place we would really love to play is the Cavern in Liverpool.

“If anyone there reads this, we are available!”
