What’s on in Wirral extra: Festival of Firsts events in Oxton from Friday, July 15

FRIDAY

All events are at Christ Church on Bessborough Road unless otherwise stated.

THE OXTON GALLERY

will see works by local artists displayed in the windows of shops and businesses around Oxton. All day.

BRIAN LUPTON WILL

lead a folk night from 8pm featuring Irish singer-songwriter and poet Anthony John Clarke and Bring your own drinks and glasses but tea, coffee and biscuits are available for a small donation. Tickets are £7 from Brian on 653 3794 or on the door.

SATURDAY

THE OXTON GALLERY

continues in shops and businesses around Oxton. All day.

A SUMMER ARTS

market takes place from 12noon to 4pm, featuring art and crafts, stalls and demonstrations from local artists. Admission is free; donations to Claire House children’s hospice would be appreciated.

PAUL BROADHURST

will perform a 30-minute recital of baroque music on the church’s 1888 Father Willis organ at 2pm followed by 30 minutes of rock at 3pm. Admission is free.

SUNDAY

THE OXTON GALLERY

continues in shops and businesses around Oxton. All day.

A POETRY AND SONG

cafe is open from 1.30 to 4pm. Poets reading their own works include Eleanor Rees, Michelle Wright, Theresa Codd, Jennifer Smith, Ian Nenna and Martin Nelson. Admission is free and refreshments will be on sale.

SHORT FILMS MADE

by animation graduates will be shown from 1.30 to 4pm in an event running parallel to the poetry and song cafe. Tea, coffee, cakes and sandwiches will be on sale.

BULLETS AND

Daffodils, a musical drama about the life of war poet Wilfred Owen, will be performed at 7.30pm. The production was written by David Charters with music and lyrics by Dean Johnson. Admission is free.
