Enjoy the best of the Big ‘O’, Roy Orbison at The Floral Pavilion, New Brighton

TO mark 21 years since the death of rock legend Roy Orbison, The Floral Pavilion, New Brighton, is staging a special anniversary show of West End sensation ‘The Voice of Roy Orbison' on Saturday, August 28.

Featuring the best loved hits of 'The Big O' together with tribute acts to two hugely successful artists of this era, The Everly Brothers and Buddy Holly, it's set to be an evening of feet stomping and hip swaying.

With a career spanning four decades, Orbison, also known as ‘The Man in Black’, was much admired by his contemporaries. Even Elvis ‘The King’ Presley himself said Orbison was simply ‘the greatest singer in the world.’

From his first hit ‘Ooby Dooby’ back in 1956, to his induction into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987, Orbison was always revered for his distinctive, powerful voice, complex compositions, and dark emotional ballads.

Star of the show, Damien Edwards, 40, takes up this gauntlet as the UKs number one tribute artist to Orbison having played Roy, to great acclaim, in Bill Kenwright’s ‘The Official Roy Orbison Story’ four times between 2000 and 2004.

Speaking to the News, Damien said:"I'm really looking forward to playing at The Floral Pavilion.

“Liverpool has a great musical heritage of its own and people here love rock and roll. The show appeals to all ages, especially audience members who were teenagers back then."

So it’s all aboard the rock rollercoaster, with recreations of favourites such as ‘Only The Lonely’, ‘Wake Up Little Suzie’, ‘Peggy Sue’, ‘Pretty Woman’, ‘Cathy’s Clown’, and ‘Rave On’, from a cast of West End stars and internationally acclaimed singers, in over two hours of non-stop hits.

‘The Voice of Roy Orbison’ is at The Floral Pavilion, New Brighton on Saturday, August 28. Tickets are £17 and £15 from The Box Office on 0151 666 0000 or www.floralpavilion.com.
