Revolver in Birkenhead going back to the 1960s

REVOLVER in Birkenhead will turn the clock back to the 1960s for a celebration of the decade which heralded the dawn of classic rock.

Artists like Pink Floyd, The Who, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac, Cream, The Kinks, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Jethro Tull, Procul Harum, The Byrds, The Doors all found their feet in the 1960s and are still influencing new bands today.

On Saturday, March 20 Revolver will be stepping back to an era when rock was a new genre, feeding on the influences of the blues but also expanding into fresh fields of discovery.

Jon Kirkman will be guest DJ for the event, which will take place in the garden of the New Chester Road venue.

Neil Tudor will be on the main stage with his Macca Band, a tribute to Paul McCartney celebrating the music of The Beatles, Wings and Macca’s solo output.

Keith Thompson, a spokesman for Revolver, said: “Obviously being a rock venue, the emphasis will mainly be on the loud and proud, but we may venture into fun bands like The Monkees as well.

“Fans are more than welcome to dress up in 60s garb but we might have to draw the line at ‘free love’!”

Revolver’s 60s night starts at 10pm and will run until 3am.

The Macca Band will be on stage at 11pm.
