SEE some of the brightest young talents on the contemporary dance scene at the Floral Pavilion Theatre next week.
Founded in 1982 by Bonnie Bird, Transitions Dance Company was the UK’s first graduate dance company, aiming to bridge the gap between training and a professional performance career for dancers.
The London-based company tours nationally and internationally, performing new work from artists who represent the very best in international choreographic talent.
The show at the Floral will see eleven brilliant young dancers performing a high voltage evening of new dance by choreographers Angela Woodhouse, Cameron McMillan and Colin Poole.
Angela, who has joined Transitions fresh from developing Sighted 2 for the Royal Opera House, is known for her quiet and minimal yet intense choreography.
Her routine will be performed to a backdrop of the theatre’s ambient sound, making the audience intimiately aware of the sound of breathing and touch, movement and stillness.
New Zealand-born classically trained dancer and choreographer Cameron McMillan has created work for companies including the Rambert Dance Company and Royal New Zealand Ballet.
His piece for Transitions – Blind Action – is set to Cube, an ensemble percussion score by Murray Hickman which was originally developed for the Melbourne International Festival of the Arts.
His fast-paced choreography explores themes like stereotypes, conformity and life on display.
Colin Poole’s piece, ..No..No, is a collaboration with composer Angus Finlayson, a student at Trinity College of Music.Poole says his choreography explores “edges, the margins between sensuality and sexuality”.
The performance starts at 7.30pm on March 11.
