Down Our Street relives Cammell Laird story

DOWN Our Street is back on stage this month – five years after it was last performed in Wirral

The hit musical play by Brian McCann tells the story of Cammell Laird through the eyes of the people of Birkenhead.

Through songs and some poignant moments, the play aims to capture the spirit of the town through the good times and the bad.

Active Drama is reviving the play to launch History Busters, its unique new arts project which will see young people dramatising Wirral’s history.

Brian has teamed up with Bidston ranger Nic Harding to launch History Busters, which will see 12 to 19-year-olds guided by the duo to research, write and ultimately perform their own plays.

Brian and Nic are hoping to work with young people’s groups or history and heritage organisations, with each play taking 10 weeks to produce.

A spokesman for Active Drama said: “This is a must for everyone who lives in Birkenhead and Wirral or, like most around here, have a connection to Lairds.
