Bebington Dramatic Society to perform Woody Allen’s classic Play It Again, Sam

BEBINGTON Dramatic Society is presenting Woody Allen’s romantic comedy Play It Again, Sam next month.

The play follows Allan Felix, a writer for Film Quarterly, who is consumed by movies.

His wife Nancy has just left him and unable to deal with the emotional turmoil, he seeks solace in the movies he loves, imagining Humphrey Bogart dropping by his apartment to offer advice on dealing with the ladies.

Helping Allan meet new women are his friend Dick and Linda Christie, who fix him up with a succession of dates, all of which end disastrously because of his nerves and insecurities.

The society’s David Oliver said: “This comedy is vintage Woody Allen: full of witty one-liners and comic situations, paying homage to Casablanca and The Maltese Falcon on the way.”

Performances are from Thursday, November 12 to Saturday, November 14 at the Gladstone Theatre, Port Sunlight, all starting at 7.30pm.

There is also a special charity performance on the Wednesday night, with all proceeds going to HCPT (Handicapped Children’s Pilgrimage Trust).

Tickets are £6 from the box office, 643 8757, or book online at www.gladstonetheatre.org.uk

The society’s next production will be John Mortimer’s A Voyage Round My Father from February 24 to 27.
