Special one-off Ivy League concert in Wallasey

ENJOY the sounds of the 1960s at a special music event in Wallasey next month.

The recently refurbished Poulton Victoria Sports and Social Club has invited The Ivy League, a popular 60s band, to entertain the crowds on Saturday, October 17 from 7pm.

Formed in 1964, the band enjoyed two top 10 hits in the UK singles chart in 1965.

The line-up is now Jon Brennan on bass guitar and vocals, Dave Buckley on drums and vocals and Mike Brice on guitar and vocals.

Original member Perry Ford kept the band together through the late 1960s, which is when Dave joined to add his unique falsetto voice.

Dave and Jon kept the Ivy League going through the seventies and beyond at a time when most 60s bands had faded away.

They turned the show in to one of the best cabaret acts in the country, starring at all the top venues of the time and now they are coming to Wirral.

The band say their act is not a tribute, but a genuine continuation of The Ivy League.

The Poulton Victoria event will include a disco and the bar will have a late licence, being open until 1am.

John Connor, secretary of the club’s committee, said: “Since our new committee was formed in April, the Poulton Victoria has gone from strength to strength.

“When we took it over it was in a lot of debt and needed a lot of work doing to it.

“But now, less than six months later, the club is out of debt and has been almost fully refurbished.

“It’s such a good thing because now we can invite talented bands like The Ivy League to entertain members and guests.

“We are hoping to put on more shows like this in the future.”

Tickets for the evening cost £5 for members and £10 for guests and are available from 638 9112.
