Venue’s Battle of the Bands contest hots up

THE competition at the Nelson’s Tuesday night Battle of the Bands is well and truly hotting up.

Now one week in, and The Trigger Fingers are the first group through to the semi-finals, due to take place in October.

And considering they’ve only been formed in the last month, it’s not a bad start for the Wirral band.

Competition organiser, Marc Kenny told the News: “ They’ve only just got together so it shows it’s not just established bands vying for the title.

“There’s always a good incentive to get a band together, not only is it a laugh but if you win you get £500.”

The heats will be running each Tuesday night at The Nelson on Grove Road in Wallasey Village.

Three bands, or individual artists, perform in each heat with the winner decided by a judging panel made up of representatives from Seven Waves Radio and Nelson staff.

The audience also gets a vote, so you could have a say in making sure your favourite band reaches the final. The heats last for the next five weeks, with the semi-finals and final in October.

And Marc says there’s still time to get involved, if you or your band want to enter. He said: “Why not just give it a go? It’s all with the aim of having a good night and with these types of night, you never know who you’re going to meet, like other musicians and bands.”

It’s free to enter and entry is free for those just looking to take in some live music.

And it’s not just Tuesdays that the Nelson breaks out the microphones and plugs in the amps.

Saturday night is also live music night and if you don’t feel you’re quite ready for musical competition, the regular Tuesday night open mike slot runs for 40 minutes following the conclusion of Battle of the Bands.
