Bebington Dramatic Society makes the news

IN A busy newspaper office, three journalists face a race against time to decide on a front page splash before deadline.

It’s not Wirral News but the plot of Bebington Dramatic Society’s first production of the new season at the Gladstone Theatre.

Comedy-drama Damages is set in a tabloid newspaper office and follows Baz, Lister and Howard, who have a scoop involving salacious shots of a children’s television presenter.

The paper has to decide whether to splash with an accusation of adultery.

At the same time, the page two story is causing problems as all detail is put off-limits by an injunction.

However they haven’t counted on a sassy legal eagle, ex-girlfriend of one of the journalists, who has her own headlines to make.

Damages was critically acclaimed when it was first performed by performed at the Bush Theatre, London, in 2004.

David Oliver, chairman of Bebington Dramatic Society, said: “The play combines the wit and one-liners of those screwball comedies of the 1940's such as His Girl Friday and The Front Page with a modern perspective.
