PARKGATE’S Artroom Gallery has welcomed five distinctly different artists for their latest exhibition, Abstract Stills and Movement.
Leading the show is North Wales-based Ann Bridges, a member of the Royal Cambrian Association and an artist whose work is considered to be “somewhere between painting and printmaking”.
Joining Ann in the contemporary showcase are Alexander Slatter, Robert Wyatt, Janet Bourne and, unusually for Artroom, sculptor in stainless steel, Christine Fox.
Curator Michelle Linger told the News: “We met Alexander over a year ago when we were looking for a good seascape artist and hadn’t come across one for a long time.
“We have a lot of local people saying they’d like a seascape, being by the sea and Alexander sells very well all over the place.
“Robert is an artist we discovered and Janet’s pieces are very abstract.
“We have a lot of people saying they live in contemporary modern apartments and they are looking for something to liven up the flat, white walls.
“Janet’s pieces fit perfectly in that type of environment.”
Ann Bridges has exhibited at Artroom before and works out of a studio in her Ruthin home, using her garden as inspiration. Ann said: “Many of my influences come from the beauty of nature and memories from childhood, such as playing in the garden, ponds, beaches and aquariums.”
Michelle added: “The clusters of flowers in her new work Bluebells gives us all a feeling of childhood innocence, and the memories of running through a sweet meadow, full of the glories that mother nature has created, as the flowers sway slightly in the breeze.”
All the work on show is available for sale, with prices running from £170 for a small canvas, to £1,900 for one of Christine Fox’s sculptures.
Abstract Stills and Movement runs at Artroom Gallery on The Parade in Parkgate until June 28.
