WIRRAL’S tribute to Billy Fury is returning to New Brighton for a seventh year.
Billy, who died in 1983, enjoyed chart success in the late 1950s and early 60s with songs like I Will, Colette, Maybe Tomorrow and It’s Only Make Believe.
To this day his 1960 album The Sound of Fury remains a seminal example of British rock ‘n’ roll.
The Billy Fury Rock ‘n’ Roll Weekend runs over three days this year and includes two concerts at the Floral Pavilion Theatre and a question and answer session with Johnny Gentle at Fort Perch Rock.
An event organiser said: “With the addition of the new Floral Pavilion Theatre the event is bigger and better than ever before, and is a fitting tribute to Britain's greatest rock ‘n’ roller.”
The first of the three shows will see Colin Gold and The Tornados telling The Billy Fury Story in Halfway To Paradise. Fittingly, the show will take place on the music legend’s birthday, Friday, April 17.
On Saturday (April 18) a host of Billy's former friends will come together for a variety night to remember Britain’s greatest rock ‘n’ roller. The line-up includes The Bachelors, who appeared in Billy’s film I’ve Got A Horse, and Cliff Roberts & The Rockers.
