Bill Shankly Story comes to New Brighton’s Floral Pavilion

THE Bill Shankly Story is coming to the Floral Pavilion Theatre, New Brighton, on Friday for what is expected to be a sell-out show.

The original and unique performance charts the life and career of the legendary Liverpool FC manager and features the men who knew him best.

Andy Cally will join fellow Liverpool heroes Ron Yeats and Chris Lawler along with John Keith, who speaks the words of Shankly, and narrator Steve Hazlehurst, the Wirral-based actor who earned rave reviews for his title role in the Dixie Dean Story.

Cally said: “Bill Shankly signed me and gave me my debut in 1960.

“It will be a great thrill to perform in a show that gives people a real insight into what a great man and unforgettable character he was.

“I know the boys have had great success and enjoyment doing the show and I’m delighted to be part of it.

“I’ve got some wonderful memories of Shanks and I’m looking forward to recounting them on the night.”

Liverpool’s record appearance holder Ian Callaghan, who has played an incredible 857 games in an Anfield jersey, will also appear in New Brighton on Friday.

The Bill Shankly Story has been playing to full houses at home and abroad since its premiere in 2006 and is still going strong.

John Keith, the show’s writer and producer, said: “We are going to organise another performance of the show in Wirral this year because we have had so many people asking about it.

“The interest has just been phenomenal and doesn’t look like it’s going to decrease any time soon.”

The Floral Pavilion audience will be invited to meet the cast for autographs and memorabilia after the performance on Friday night.
