Rock musical by Wallasey singer Peter Leay has a serious message about the affect of alcoholism on families

PAULINE Daniels has directed and will be starring in a powerful show about alcoholism this month at The Actors Studio, Liverpool.

Peter Leay’s rock musical George...Last on the Streets will be performed from February 9-14 at 36 Seel Street.

The former member of the hit Merseyside pop band Buster says his show deals with a very serious subject but is not all doom and gloom.

The singer from Wallasey said: “I tackle issues that affect people and families involved in alcoholism but with comedy and music.”

Starring alongside comedian and actress Pauline Daniels in the show are local celebrities including Mark Lacey, Afraid of Mice frontman Phil Jones, Emma Lisi, Lisa Davies, Bernie Dalton and Robbie Knowles.

Together they tell the story of one family dealing with an alcoholic loved one.

Through rock, rap, ballads and melody they show the devastating effect excessive and uncontrollable drinking can have on a loving and stable family environment.

The story is told from both the alcoholic and the family’s point of view with a blend of humour and sadness supported by a powerful original musical score.

Alan Richards wrote the script and co-wrote the songs with Peter, who has been an established composer and recording artiste for almost 30 years.

The musician achieved his first gold disc at 17 for a number one hit in Japan for RCA records and has been working on his latest show for four years.

He said: “I’m really happy with the cast and am pleased Pauline has become so involved in it.

“My son Paul and daughter Jenna also contribute their talent to the show.

“If it goes down well this month, I’d like to compress it and take it around schools as an education project in the future.”
