Birkenhead Scouts ready for Gang Show date at Gladstone Theatre

BIRKENHEAD Scouts are presenting their Gang Show 2009 at the Gladstone Theatre, Port Sunlight next week.

The show is packed full of entertainment for all the family - ranging from comedy sketches to choral specials and full musical items, backed by a 10-piece orchestra.

Cubs will be taking you on an amazing adventure with the “Pirates of the Caribbean” while members of the main cast are aiming to spread a little culture with their version of Romeo and Juliet - Scouse style!

Other highlights include the Gang Show version of the famous duck soup sketch, a vocal orchestra’s version of the William Tell Overture and a high energy performance of “Car Wash”.

The youngest member of the cast - which includes scouts from Bebington as well as Birkenhead - is eight-year-old Karl Langston and the oldest 82-year-old Peter Cawood.

The show is now in its 43rd year and started life in the Plaza, Birkenhead before moving to the Glenda Jackson Theatre on Borough Road.

Another move saw Birkenhead Scouts become the first to perform at Pacific Road Arts Centre in 1999.

Birkenhead Scouts strive to remain close to the traditions set by Gang Show founder Ralph Reader and have been awarded the prestigious red necker for meeting Gang Show standards set out by the Scout Association.

Performances are at 7.30pm, with a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.

Tickets are £8 (£6 concessions), available from Yvonne on 652 3737.
