Vital disco for disabled and mentally affected people at Birkenhead’s Latin Quarter club needs sponsor

A WEEKLY event at the Latin Quarter for disabled and mentally affected people needs sponsoring.

The Birkenhead nightspot has been hosting these nights every Monday at 7pm for two years.

It has been the catalyst for many relationships and the owners of the bar hope many more friendships will be made in 2009.

However, the event has become expensive to run and needs companies to get on board and help out with sponsorship.

Event organiser Linda Hicks, of Prenton, said: “I have a 25-year-old Down’s Syndrome daughter who is quite able to meet people and have a relationship, but before this event she never had the opportunity.

“Disabled and mentally affected people can’t just walk into a pub and have a drink like we would, so nights like these are so important.

“The Latin Quarter is the only place that runs these events so if it had to stop there would be nowhere else like it to take my daughter.”

Disabled and mentally affected people can attend with their carer and have a dance under the disco lights. The bar is open until 11pm and entry fee is £3.

If you have special needs and are looking for friendship with people of the same ability as you, romance or simply a good dance, fun and a drink, the Latin Quarter is the place to be every Monday.
