l THE new season at the Gladstone Theatre, Port Sunlight, commences with a unique concert entitled “An Evening Of Song and Brass” on Saturday, August 30 featuring local choir Swansong together with the Port Sunlight Lyceum Brass Band. Tickets are £6 and £7 and are available from the theatre box office on 643 8757.

lWILKO Johnson (Dr Feelgood/Blockheads) brings his choppy guitar style to Pacific Road, Birkenhead, on Friday, September 5. Tickets are £13 (£11 concessions) or £14 on the door. Ring the box office on 647 0752.

lWIRRAL Schools Concert Band presents its 25th anniversary celebration concert at Pacific Road, Birkenhead, on Saturday, September 6. The band, which has just returned from a European tour, is a farewell performance for musical director Gabrielle Horne who is moving to a new job in the south of England. lTHE Freddie Smith Big Band plays every Wednesday evening at Bebington Royal British Legion Club. Music starts at 7.30pm and admission is free. On August 13 Manchester's Yvonne Hutton will be guest vocalist.
