WIRRAL CHEF OF THE YEAR: Winner of search for Wirral’s top chef to be named next week

OUR annual search for Wirral’s top chef will draw to a close next week – with the crowning of our winner!

Our finalists for 2011 – Robert Bryson of the Anchor Inn, Kane Dickinson of Peninsula Dining Room, Dave Williams from the Portrait House, Geoff Derry from the Grove House Hotel and Dominic Pospisil of Gem Restaurant will go head to head in a cook-off on Monday.

The five chefs each hosted a Wirral Chef of the Year night at their restaurants over the summer.

Wirral News readers were invited to attend and judge them on their starter, main course, dessert, overall presentation, evidence of using local/seasonal ingredients, balance of menu, originality of dishes and quality.

The scores are in – but this year those votes will represent only 50% of the final mark.

The rest will come from Monday’s cook-off, which will take place in the kitchens of one of the competition sponsors, Liverpool Community College.

It will be judged by Masterchef: The Professionals Claire Lara and chef Paul Askew, of the London Carriageworks restaurant in Liverpool.

The chef with the overall highest score will be crowned Wirral Chef of the Year 2011 – and we’ll be revealing the winner after the cook-off.

Check www.wirralnews.co.uk on Monday afternoon to find out who he is.

WIRRAL Chef of the Year is supported by Wirral Council, Liverpool Community College, Wirral Met College and Wirral Farmers Market.
