Mersey Clipper pub counting down to Christmas with tempting carvery and curry offers

THE Mersey Clipper is counting down to Christmas with some tempting food offers and a new dining/function room.

The Prenton pub – which can be found right next to Tranmere Rovers’ Prenton Park ground – is now offering its popular carvery for £3.95 from Monday to Friday.

Diners can tuck into their turkey, gammon and beef from 12 to 8pm.

On Sundays the carvery is £5.95.

The Clipper serves up classic pub favourites like scampi and burgers seven days a week on its two meals for £8 offer.

All meals can now be served in the pub’s new dining room, which is also available for functions.

Owner Jimmy Liu said: “There’s a lot of competition when it comes to carveries. Other pubs are doing big offers and everyone is watching their pennies, so we decided to offer our carvery for a new price.

“It’s been popular – on Monday we ran out of carvery at 6.45pm, which is a first!

“We’ve created a dining room which is decorated in a more traditional way with wallpaper and carpets. It has its own doors, so it can be used as a separate room for small functions.”

Keeping an eye on the local competition, the Clipper has launched a curry night every Thursday.

The night will also see music from Alistair, formerly of Soul Patrol, who will be on stage from 9pm.

Jimmy said: “It’s something we’ve never done before but I know curry nights are popular – everywhere seems to be doing them.

“Ours is £5.95 and that includes a drink.”

The Clipper will be open as usual on Christmas Day and bookings are now being taken for Christmas dinner.

A four-course meal, with mince pies and coffee to finish, is £38.95.

Hush now play at the pub every Sunday and will be performing on Christmas night – tickets are £7, available from the bar.
