ONE of Wirral’s top chefs is putting his tastebuds to the test by taking on a charity bushtucker trial!
Julian Davies, who runs Julian’s restaurant in Hoylake, has volunteered to take part in I’m NOT a Celebrity, Get Me in There! at Jack Rabbit Slims on Sunday, November 30.
All proceeds will go to St John’s Hospice - and Julian says his sensitive stomach is ready for the challenge.
He said: “I’ve never watched I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! but I thought to myself -what on earth can they put in that I can’t eat?
“I’m prepared to try anything as long as it’s classed as food! The only thing I would fail on is something like fast food or goat’s cheese, which I have to cook with but I don’t like.
“It’s about testing myself and finding out whether I can eat something like a locust or a fish eye, because I’ve got quite a sensitive stomach.
“I have eaten some unusual things in my life while travelling and cooking. At a food festival in Birmingham I once had a balut, which is a fertilised duck egg with a nearly-developed embryo inside that’s soft-boiled in a shell. It was absolutely disgusting.
“Whatever I eat, I don’t intend to use it on any of my menus!”
You can sponsor Julian by calling into the restaurant on 20 Birkenhead Road or call 632 6241.
Tickets for “I’m NOT a Celebrity, Get Me in There!” are £3 in advance and £5 on the night, available from Jack Rabbits or from the fundraising office at St John’s Hospice.
