LEGENDARY Liverpool band China Crisis made a surprise appearance in Meols at the weekend.
Gary Daly and Eddie Lundun performed at the Meols Park Celebration Day on Sunday to mark the success of the Friends of Meols Park.
The group has raised thousands of pounds towards refurbishing the park’s play area and buying new play equipment.
The celebration day included donkey rides, horse and car rides, Punch & Judy, a Viking show and children’s rides.
Wirral Community Play Rangers were on hand to organise children’s games and young footballers enjoyed a mini soccer tournament.
Musicians in the music marquee included Steve Wale, Peter Aaron and Billy J Mason.
The play area was officially opened by the Mayor and Mayoress of Wirral, accompanied by the Mayor & Mayoress of Knowsley.
Roy Shuttleworth, secretary of the Friends of Meols Park, said: “Gary had everyone in hysterics by saying he felt like the Vicar of Dibley and that he would draw the line at judging the bonnie baby competition.
“Eddie and Gary first met at St Kevin’s school in Kirkby, Liverpool, so it was fitting that the Mayor and Mayoress of Knowsley should attend.”
